EP. 120 "FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE!"....From National Days To Super Bowl Takes
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Friday Night Live returns with a burst of energy, a few hot takes, and a whole lot of nostalgia. We kick off with quick, friendly reminders to subscribe and jump straight into National Working Naked Day and National Frozen Yogurt Day—because yes, the strange rhythm of our calendar can still make us laugh. Vanilla swirls, cookie dough, and chopped peanut butter cups set the tone: simple treats, simple joy.
From there, we celebrate a run of birthdays that spark big conversations. Axl Rose and Rick Astley bring the pop-culture grin; Babe Ruth opens the door to baseball’s tangled record books; and Ronald Reagan invites a reflection on presidential legacy. We get candid about the home run crown, why Hank Aaron stands tall in baseball history, and how fans choose to honor greatness beyond raw numbers.
Football fans get their fill as we look toward Seattle vs. New England with a redemption arc that still stings at the goal line. We revisit the decision that haunted a franchise and make a case for how Sunday could write a better ending. Then comes a halftime rant for the ages: rock deserves a turn on the biggest stage. Not out of nostalgia alone, but because balance and spectacle matter when the world is watching.
The nostalgia keeps rolling with National 80s Day—teased hair, bright colors, and a soundtrack that still moves a room. We line up a stack of live music plans: Extra Innings Festival in Scottsdale, the showstopping Bohemian Queen, Aldo Nova in Vegas, Angel’s farewell at the Whisky, and Tom Keifer’s powerhouse band in Anaheim. If you thrive on guitar solos and sing-alongs, there’s plenty to circle on the calendar.
And then the big announcement: The Drunk Show returns Friday, March 13. It’s bold, live, and built as a public service to spotlight responsible drinking, complete with blood alcohol checks and straight talk about safety. Join us live, build that 80s playlist, and drop your Super Bowl pick. If you had fun, subscribe, leave a review, and share the episode with a friend—better yet, a thousand of them.

And let's leave the comments open. All right, we'll leave the comments open just in case. So, yeah, it's Friday night. We're live. And this is the first Friday night live of I I don't want to call it the new year anymore. We're two, we're we're in our second month. We're in February of 2026. But this is the first Friday night live of 2026. How about that? Um, so yeah, let's just have a little bit of fun tonight. And uh, you know, let's see where it goes. You know, we just keep it loose right here. Um, and um you guys are welcome to call in if you have my number. Ah, if you have my number, you're welcome to uh leave a comment. Um, the comments are open, so you guys can do that if you're watching. And let's just have some fun. Let's kind of get right into it. It's Friday, uh, what's the date? Oh, it's Friday, February 6th. Okay, so um, what does that mean? Well, today is National Working Naked Day. National Working Naked Day. Hmm. So does that mean that I should take my shirt off? Yeah, and take my shorts off? I could, I mean, I very well could sit right here in the studio naked. Most of you wouldn't know it. You would just think I'm sitting here with a without a shirt on. Um, but no, I'm not gonna do that. I'm not gonna scare anybody away. Let's see. Um, so working naked day. What kind of job would allow you to to work naked? Or not, I shouldn't say allow, but but what kind of jobs out there are ones that that you can work naked? Hmm. Well, okay. Certainly, if you're working from home, you can work naked, because who's gonna know, right? Nobody's gonna know. Um, I suppose if you're doing a podcast, that's still working from home, right? Uh, let's see, what else? What else is there? What else? Sorry, I have it for those watching. I've got a itch on the inside of my nose here. Um what else? Let's see, what else? Who I don't know. Let me see. I guess like um maybe a sex worker, you know, uh uh lady of the evening. Um, maybe a stripper. Okay, strippers, yeah. So lady of the evening, stripper. Um, who else? Let me see. Who else could be working naked? Uh I don't know. What do you guys think? Anyway. Um, what else? Today is also, oh yeah, National Frozen Yogurt Day. That's cool. That's cool. National Frozen Yogurt Day. So maybe when I'm done here, when we're all wrapped up, I'm gonna take a trip down to the local yogurt land and pick me up some froyo, right? Just might do that. Yeah, hey, speaking of which, I I guess I picked the wrong day for you know for uh frozen yogurt day because, or I didn't pick it, but last Friday I got off work at a really good time, and so on my way home, I did stop at Yogurt Land and I picked up a big old giant cup of yogurt for Tess and for Catherine and myself. I picked up one uh one for each of us, and uh oh, it was great, it was great, so good. And um, so had I thought about that, I would have stopped on my way home today and done it. But I can still enjoy uh once the podcast is over, yogurt land will still be open. I can still head down there and partake in some frozen yogurt. Why not? Um, I like it, it's good stuff, you know. Um I keep it simple. I get like vanilla and um usually like a cookies and cream or a cookie dough, something like that. And then of course I have to load it up with the uh um chopped up Reese's peanut butter cups. I have to do that. That's and really I that's it. I keep it, I keep it very simple. Very, very simple. Um, what else is going on today? Let's see, as far as some um some celebrity birthdays, let's see. Um Axel Rose, lead singer of Guns N' Roses, today's his birthday. I believe he's uh 64, I think. Um who else? Rick Astley. You guys remember Rick Astley, right? If you're if you're younger, you may not. Rick Astley had a I don't know, a couple three hits in the in the late 80s, you know. Um never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down. You know, you remember that song? And and now that there's that whole thing that's been taking place the last several years, you know. Um it's a thing, I don't know, social media thing. You get where you get Rick rolled. I I don't know. I don't understand it, but that's okay. So Rick Astley um turned 60 today. 60. All right, Rick, good on you. Uh let me see, who else? Oh, George Herman Babe Ruth. Yeah. George Herman Babe Ruth. Uh let's see. The babe Hall of Fame baseball player, major league baseball player, by the way, just in case you didn't know. Hall of Famer, um, uh two-time All-Star, which I I saw that number and I thought, two-time? Are you kidding me? But they probably didn't have the uh the all-star game or all-star selections or anything like that early on in his career. It was probably something that started later on. Uh, let's see, what else? Uh, the babe was uh seven-time World Series champion, and he was a 12-time American League home run champion. And for many, many years, he was Major League Baseball's home run king with 714 home runs until 1974, I believe it was. Yeah, 74, when Hank Aaron broke that record, hitting his 715th off of Dodger pitcher Al Downing. And then, of course, uh then Hank went on to um finish out his career with 755 home runs all time. And I I'm sorry, I'm gonna say it right here, but Hank Garon is the Major League Baseball home run king, will always be. Forget about what Barry Bonds did. I just no, to me, that that stuff doesn't count. Okay, that it doesn't count what Barry Bonds did, breaking the record and and all that kind of stuff, because the guy was on uh every kind of uh performance-enhancing drug you could think of, okay, no matter how much he denied it. And you know what was weird though, and I don't want to go off on a tangent, but Barry Bonds, I I first off I don't know if he'll ever get in the Hall of Fame. I'm not sure, uh, just because of the cheating and all that stuff that that uh took place. But Barry Bonds probably would have been a Hall of Famer without the juice, okay? Without the uh the steroids and and all the performance-enhancing drugs that that he was that he was partaking in. Probably would have been a Hall of Famer anyway, because he was he was a good ball player when he first came up. He had a lot of speed, uh, he could hit for average. He wasn't like a big power hitter. No, that he was not. But um he really he I wouldn't say he was a five-tool player because he didn't have a very strong arm, but uh, but he could run down balls in the outfield. So he's more like a four-tool player. Well, like I said, he could hit, but he didn't really hit for too much power, a little bit of power, but nothing like he did like the back half of his career. And that stuff was just ridiculous. So I don't know. I think maybe it it was something that he saw from Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa when they had their uh, you know, their chase for 70 in, I think what was that, 1998? And uh obviously there's a lot of um there's a lot of um stuff that swirls around that season in baseball, you know, a lot of um controversy and all that um as to whether those guys were juiced. And uh they probably were. But uh yeah, so anyway, uh so uh Hank Aaron is always gonna be the home run king to me, always be my home run king. Um, but and we go from Babe Ruth's birthday to Hank Aaron to Barry Bonds. All right, it's okay. And then finally, today, former president Ronald Reagan was born on this day. Yeah, yes, former president Ronald Reagan loved it. That um probably up until current times. I mean, that that's that he's my president. He is, he's he's my president, and um, you know, one of the best, one of the best this country's ever had as well. So, although I you know, I tell you what, there's uh there's a few in line there. Starting honestly, starting with George Washington, and why? Why would George Washington? It's you know, first off, he did accomplish a lot, but but secondly, and most importantly, there was no template for being president. There was nothing before him, there was no one before him. He was the first, he's the one that laid the groundwork. And uh he accomplished quite a bit. He certainly did before his presidency and then during his presidency. It was just awesome. So, really, Georgia's one of the best the country's ever seen. But uh Ronald Reagan certainly right up there with one of the best presidents in our nation's history. And I tell you what, if things keep going the way they're going, our current president, Donald Trump, might just surpass everyone, honestly. It's gonna anger some people, but you know, for those who it angers, the truth hurts. But that's just the way it is. So, you know, uh look, cheers to everyone who is celebrating or is not celebrating because they have passed on. But here's to all the birthdays today. All right, so cheers. And what I'm drinking, I'm drinking a little bit of chocolate rain. Chocolate rain from the brewery here locally in the city of Placentia, and it is so so good. Let me see. Chocolate rain is uh it's a barrel-aged Imperial stout. And you guys know if you've been around on the podcast for any amount of time, you guys know I like my barrel-aged stouts. This one is uh aged in bourbon barrels with cacao nibs and vanilla beans, and you really have to be careful with this one because now this one's from 2018. Oh, we opened this one up like three weeks ago, and you say, Well, how can you still be drinking it? Because there's like no carbonation in these things. There's a little bit of what I call fizz, that's about it. Um, what's the ABV on this one? It's like really high. I think it's like 23%. Let me see. It says, Oh, there it is. Oh, no, that's not this one. This one's 19.5. This is chocolate rain, spelled the way you would think, with the R A I N as in coming out of the sky rain. They also have another one called chocolate rain, but it's R-E-I-G-N, as in to rain over something. And that one, um, that one is a little bit higher in the uh alcohol content. So gotta you gotta be careful with these barrel-aged stouts here. They're high in alcohol, and they'll come out and get you if you don't watch it because they're they're very tasty, so they could sneak up on you. You know what? I think we're overdue. We are yeah, we're like way overdue for another um another stout tasting on the podcast. We really should. There's a lot of a lot of good stuff out there. We should probably do that. We may have to schedule something like that real soon. Well, anyway, um, so here's uh kind of really we're not we're not dealing with too much. I'm just talking to you guys, and you all are watching and or listening. Um so this weekend is uh the big game. Ooh, the Super Bowl. Yes, oh my goodness, I said it. What is the NFL gonna send me a cease and desist or something? Don't you think that is so silly? And when did that start? That started what probably less than 10 years ago, where you can't say you can't say Super Bowl because the NFL has got the trademark on it now. Yeah, of course it's their game, but it's two words, seriously. And and why wouldn't you want people to say Super Bowl? Why wouldn't you want them to use that phrase or that name when they're speaking about it? Why why would you make them have to make up things like, oh, the big game or the big weekend or you know, whatever, whatever it is that they might say. That's just so dumb to me. But uh okay, whatever. So today, or not today, but this weekend is Super Bowl weekend. Sunday is the Super Bowl, is the big game, right? Seahawks and uh and Patriots, and um you know, I first off, I don't know if you guys even know this, but I'm a I'm a Raider fan, okay? Believe it or not, I'm a Raider fan, have been since 1975. Um and my team is terrible, and they have been terrible for quite some time, but uh I still cheer for a bunch of other teams, and uh I you know I cheer for the Rams. Um I cheer for the Lions. I really like the the Lions. I love Dan Campbell. He's such a just such a uh a fun coach and a coach that I mean, if I was young enough and was able to play, I then I'd be the guy that I want to play for, you know, just uh man. Um, but I do I cheer for quite a few teams, um, certainly because mine is absolutely terrible. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for something better for next season. Nonetheless, getting back to the Super Bowl. So we have the Seahawks and the Patriots. Um I'm not a huge Patriots fan at all. I'll come right out and say can't stand them. So uh yeah, so I would like to see the uh the Seahawks win this game. My brother Chuck is a major, major fan of the Seahawks, has been a fan of the Seahawks since like, I don't know. I mean, since we were kids and and and really started following football. And I think when was the Seahawks' first season? Like 76 or 70, no, it couldn't have been 76, 76, 77, somewhere right around there. Um I think it might have been the same season, uh the same year, I should say, that um the Seattle Mariners came into the into Major League Baseball because they they played in the same stadium in the Kingdome in Seattle. But uh, so my brother Chuck is a major Seahawks fan, so I know he's uh he's he's gonna be front and center um on Sunday with his chips and salsa and probably a alcohol-free Heineken and or non-alcohol Heineken, however you say it, and he'll be ready to go. But um yeah, I mean I I guess I'm looking forward to seeing the game. Um, I would like to see Seattle win and I kind of kind of make up for the one that they let get away a few years back when uh these two teams played in the Super Bowl and and and and the Seahawks with what like two minutes, maybe was less than that, I can't even recall, left in the uh the in the game. They're on like the two or three yard line, and they're they've just been marching right down the field. And uh uh that's when Marshawn Lynch, uh the beast, was still um um was still playing for Seattle and he was having a great season. And it would have been so easy for them to just hand the ball off to Marshawn Lynch and instead coach Peter. Carroll tries to get tricky and pass the ball into the end zone, which would have sealed the game. A touchdown would have just sealed the game for the Seahawks. And the ball's intercepted by what was a what was the guy's name? Last name, I think it was Butler. Was it Malcolm Butler? I think. Maybe I can't recall. Somebody let me know if you guys know that one. Somebody let me know in the comments. But um, yeah, and then of course, Seattle loses the game. So it's a chance for uh Seattle. Obviously, the teams are completely different, completely different rosters, different coaches, as a matter of fact. But it's still two organizations that have met in the Super Bowl previously, and they will be doing it once again this Sunday, and I think that Seattle will redeem themselves. So there you go. And I am not gonna get into the halftime show because I have no interest in the halftime show. And there's a couple of reasons, okay. There's a couple of reasons. Um I would say first and foremost, the reason why I'm not interested in the halftime show is I'm um I look, you guys know I like all kinds of music, okay? But um the NFL for the last this will be year 17. So for the last 16 years, and now it's going to be 17, has completely ignored um the genre of rock and roll in their halftime shows. The last rock band to play in the halftime show was The Who, and that was in 09. So it's a long time. And it's been a bunch of, honestly, it's been a bunch of garbage since. Some of you may not agree with that, but that I'm not even saying it's my opinion, it's just a fact. Go back and watch them. None of these halftime shows have been memorable at all. Um, the last, honestly, I I believe the last truly memorable halftime show was 06 when Prince played. When uh Prince played the halftime show that was in Miami. And that was something. That was a show. It really was. But uh fast forwarding to current times, I'm not interested in seeing Bad Bunny. Okay, I don't care how popular he is, doesn't just because you're popular doesn't make you good. All right. Um, so I have no interest in that at all. And I have no interest in um, I don't know, watching watching him wear a dress, because you know, speculation is he's probably gonna be wearing a dress. Um that kind of stuff. That's just that's just stupid stuff. It's just it's just dumb. And it's, you know, it's just trying to make a statement as far as um really, honestly, hating our country. So I guess I am gonna get into it. Sorry. Um yeah, just getting into it, just it's just making a statement as far as hating our country. Uh, it's being disrespectful in not wanting to perform at an American sporting event. Yes, it's seen worldwide, but this is an American sporting event, and we're gonna perform in a foreign language. We're gonna perform it in Spanish, and you know, I don't know if he's gonna get political or not, but I know he hates the country. All right. So why would we allow an artist to perform uh during you know the biggest sporting event of the year in our country, our sport, our game. Why would we allow somebody that hates our country to do that? But yeah, so I think I'll be turn tuning into the um uh Turning Point USA halftime show. Yeah, that'll be on what Real America's Voice. I think there's a few outlets. It'll be on their YouTube channel and all that kind of stuff. I'll be tuning into that. Um watching for that one to see how that all works out. So, all right, let's get over it. Let's get over it, let's get past it. No, this is fun. You know what else today is, and I didn't mention it. I didn't mention it. I today is also national eighties day. Yes, as in the 1980s, the decade of the 80s, the decade of decadence, and uh certainly my favorite decade of all time. Um just such cool stuff. Are you serious? Are you kidding me? Just such cool stuff. Uh from awesome hair dos that the girls have where their hair stood about so high and they teased it up and aquinetted, and then you know, like mid-80s, mid to late 80s, the guys were wearing their hair about that high, too. Um the music, you guys know out there that I love my 80s music, whether it's 80s rock, 80s hard rock, the pop music from the 80s, you know, my kids have told me more than once that I'm stuck in the 80s and I'm okay with that. I'm alright with that. But um, yeah, so today is National 80s Day. Why don't you just, if you want to, once uh once Friday Night Live is is over for this evening, get into your closet or into your dresser drawers and ladies, get your leg warmers out, get your uh your fluorescent uh uh crop tops, um dolphin shorts, all that good stuff, you know, and and put a nice bright yellow or green headband on and just go rock it. All right, just go rock it, you know. Um National 80s Day. I love it. You know what that reminds me. I we've got to make a trip to um Club 80s. We have a a dance club close by, it's called Club 80s, and uh need I say more when we go, we tear it up, we spend pretty much the whole night on the dance floor. It's great, great stuff. So here's some chocolate rain to the 80s, all right. Oh yeah, good stuff. So listen, I just want to have a little bit of fun with you tonight. Um, yeah, it's the like I said, it's the first Friday night live of the year, 2026. Who knows how many more we'll have, but it's just something that pops up from from uh uh time to time. So what do you guys uh since we've been speaking a little bit of music, what are you guys looking forward to this year? What shows do you have are you looking forward to or do you have coming up on your on your schedule uh for the year? What have you have you kind of earmarked or what do you have tickets for already? Um I I could run it down right now for me personally. Uh the end of this month, the last weekend of the month. Uh I'm going to Scottsdale, Scottsdale, Arizona. There's a festival. I think it's a I think it's a two-day festival. I think it's Friday and Saturday. It's called Extra Innings. So I'm assuming it is at one of the ballparks in the Scottsdale area. And it's um kind of a mix of country music and rock and roll. I don't even remember all the the acts that are going to be there. Um, I think Luke Bryan is one of the acts. Um I know the Brett Michaels band is is is going to be performing also. I think Brett Michaels is headlining one night. Um I don't remember, but I know I'm looking forward to it. And then um, what else do I have coming up? Uh I think in March, towards the end of March, I want to get out to go see my buddy Paulie Z and the just the tremendously talented queen tribute band, Bohemian Queen. I like to go see those guys again. Haven't seen them in a little bit, and they're gonna be out and about. I they're actually out and about tomorrow, but I can't make it tomorrow night. Can't make it tomorrow night, but I know they're gonna be around close by uh towards the end of March. So I'll I'll get that done. And then um, what else am I looking forward to? Oh, I got my tickets already for Aldo Nova. Yeah. Aldo Nova is gonna be at the golden nugget in Vegas. That's in May. So I already got my tickets for that. Can't wait to see Aldo. Um I did not see him at all last year. He hurt himself. He had taken a fall uh and and actually broke or fractured something in his back. So he was in uh, yeah, he was in a brace for quite a while and had to go through all this uh PT and that kind of stuff. So now he is feeling strong again and he'll be back out on the road this year. And I'm looking forward to it. That'll be a lot of fun. Then my guys from Angel, they uh announced earlier. Well, they uh I think it was late last season. I think it was last season, last uh last year. I think it was in December, they announced a farewell tour. And it's it's a farewell tour. It's gonna be uh this year, 2026, and into 2027. But they're going to be performing at the Whiskey of Go-Go. I think that's in July. So I'll be there for that. I'll be there for that as well. And uh actually, what in April, oh yes, in April, I'm going to Cowboy Festival. I'm gonna go see past guest and friend of the program, Olivia Harms. So I'm gonna get out there, Catherine and I will go out and make a trip, and umet up with her. I'll get to meet her family, want to meet her husband, meet her mom. So that'll be a lot of fun. So we got a uh a healthy list of shows. Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot to include. I gotta go out, we gotta get back to see the uh the Tom Kiefer band. Uh Tom Kiefer Band, Tom Kiefer formerly of Cinderella. Tom Kiefer Band will be is starting a tour uh coming up real soon, and they will be in uh where are they gonna be in this area? Oh, they're gonna be in Anaheim. That's right. They'll be in Anaheim. Um, so I'm gonna go check that out. It's been a couple of years since I've I've seen Tom, and his band is absolutely fantastic. I've talked about it previously, so I can't wait for that. I as far as I can think of, that's that's all there is for shows uh so far. So far. I'm sure there probably a few more pop up that I'm gonna want to get to, but that's a good list to start with, right? I think that's pretty good. So um I'm going to I'm going to um finish this pour of chocolate rain, and then I'm going to tell you guys to mark your calendars. So here we go. That is so good. That is absolutely delicious. So, so good. Um I kind of did that on purpose. Mark your calendars. March 13th. That is a Friday. We, oh well, we, I guess we, because there will be more than one of us here in the studio. Uh the drunk show is coming back. It is going to be Friday night, March the 13th. It will be live. There's a very good reason for that. And if you're new to the program and you weren't around last year when I did it, um, it is my public service announcement. I know it sounds like fun and games and all that, and trust me, it's not because it wasn't fun for me last year. I got hammered. All right. Um, but it is my public service announcement to you, the audience. Uh I'm trying to certainly shine a spotlight on uh drinking responsibly and and uh, you know, drinking and driving, or I should say not drinking and driving, that kind of stuff. So uh the rundown, you know, I mean, I I'll just I'll be drinking throughout the show. Um I'm not sure if Catherine's gonna be in studio with me. I'm hoping so. Last year, Tess was in studio with me and um she monitored my blood alcohol content. Um we even, well, I would I would say she conducted a field sobriety test, but I don't remember that. So um, yeah, but it's all that I'm still working. I I really, really, really want to get somebody from law enforcement in the studio to kind of go through things and explain things uh as we go through the process of getting twisted and um that kind of stuff.
