We tried to go live, realized we weren’t actually live, and somehow that set the perfect tone for a Friday night that spirals from goofy to surprisingly useful. After we kick around the day’s “national holidays” and swap a hot air balloon horror story that makes skydiving sound reasonable, we set the ground rules: no Malort tonight. Trivia decides who eats the BeanBoozled jelly beans, and yes, the flavors are as brutal as you remember.

Then we get into the real reason the table is crowded: a Savage Rabbit spirits tasting. We talk through what makes their vodka stand out, why people claim it drinks “clean,” and how filtration and ingredients show up in the glass. Catherine mixes a blueberry lemon drop martini twist with fresh squeezed lemon juice, lemoncello, and blueberry syrup, and we get specific about the one upgrade that instantly improves home cocktails: stop using bottled citrus when you can use fresh.

From there we move into tequila, tasting Savage Rabbit Blanco tequila neat and breaking down what “blanco” means, what agave-forward flavor should feel like, and how to judge heat versus warmth. We follow it with an extra añejo tequila aged three years, digging into oak, smoke, spice, finish, and why tequila tasting parties can be about conversation and palate training, not getting wasted. We wrap with hot yoga habits, a prank Ben fully believed, and the everyday couple stuff that keeps it real.

Going Live The Second Time

SPEAKER_00

Now we're good. Now we're good. Yeah. Hello again for the second time. I'll explain in a second. Hey there. Welcome into the Ben Maynard program. Thanks for being here. It is Friday night, and we are live. And look who's here with us. That's right. Prettiest girl in the world. So uh we're gonna have some fun. Thanks for uh thanks for joining us. And um, yeah, so listen, um we've got some cool stuff coming. I'm just trying to situate myself here. Um I'll explain in a minute, boy. Did I I'm such a dummy. Ah, there it is. Oh, wait, yeah, that's it right there. I can't see across the studio. Okay, so listen, um, before we get into any nonsense, because it is date night with me, and now that uh Catherine's here, it's kind of like a threesome, right? But before we uh get all that started, as you guys know, this program is available wherever you get your podcasts, and it's on YouTube, just like tonight. So just search the Ben Maynard program and subscribe. All right. Next, follow me on my socials, on Instagram. It is simply Ben Maynard program all one word, right? Uh-huh, uh-huh. Or on the TikTok.

SPEAKER_02

No, you don't have to say the TikTok. Yeah, you know, say TikTok.

SPEAKER_00

No, I'm saying, no, that that's that's inside. That's inside. Can I finish this, please? Oh, this is gonna be fun. Or on the TikTok at the Ben Maynard program. So plenty of ways to take in this show for your dancing and listening pleasure. And away we go.

SPEAKER_02

I I just realized I can't make faces at him or his side faces because he's looking right at me.

SPEAKER_00

So I will have to every anything you do, because I'm looking right at the camera here. I didn't realize that's the monitor, so I see everything.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah. So I just have to keep smiling.

SPEAKER_00

There you go. So uh, so yes, again, it's Friday night. We're live. Oh, and Raul was texting me. I don't know what he said. Oh, you know, I mean, let me see. I uh can't assume typed, whatever.

SPEAKER_03

So it's what is Catherine doing with those bunny ears?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, what is she doing? We'll get into that in a minute. We're live.

SPEAKER_03

They look orange on the camera. Maybe they'll come across red.

SPEAKER_00

Well, like we checked earlier, they're they're they're they're looking orange because the the lights in the front side of the studio are brighter than what we have the back side.

SPEAKER_03

There, they look bright red.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

In there they look orange.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay. Yeah. Because uh we always dim the the studios at the or the uh lights at the back end of the studio. Um makes things look a little bit better. Anyway, so so so check it out. I know we're a little bit late. Uh what is it? Well now it's like eight minutes after, but so we got started what three or four minutes late, and this is funny. So we actually started on time, and about three minutes in, I um I'm I'm looking at the monitor and I see that it doesn't say live. And I was like, wait a minute, we're supposed to be live. So I didn't hit the live stream button. Um, I just hit the regular record button. So I had to start everything all over again. That's just all gonna be part of the blooper reel one of these days when uh when when we put one together. So, okay. Again, Friday night live. And uh I haven't done a live stream in a few weeks, so I don't even remember what I do here, but it's oh it's okay. Maybe I'm just nervous because I got this pretty thing sitting next to me. She gets me all, you know, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, so listen,

Fish And Chips Plus Food Holidays

SPEAKER_00

um, let's get started with uh some stuff. You know, today is let me put my glasses on so I can see. Today is national fish and chip day. Isn't that great?

SPEAKER_03

Now we should have, yeah. We should have gone to lunch and done what?

SPEAKER_00

Had fish and chip? But I yeah, I'm not a seafood guy, I'm not a seafood guy though. Ugh. I'm a chip guy. I'll have the chips with some barbecue sauce.

SPEAKER_03

No fish, though.

SPEAKER_00

Nah, no, no, no fish. But uh, yeah, you know, we could have done it anyway, just for the heck of it, right? Yeah, it's uh it's the fish and chips. That is uh it's a it's actually a dish out of the UK that we haven't Americanized it, we've just made it very popular here in the United States. So um just one of those things. But uh yeah, happy National Fish and Chip Day. Hope some of you are actually actually eating fish and chips and maybe even you know putting down a yeah, and or putting down a pint of beer with it. So why not, right?

SPEAKER_03

Well, now that sounds good.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Sounds sounds great. No beer for me tonight. No, not no, not right now, anyway. You guys will

Hot Air Balloon Mishaps And Risks

SPEAKER_00

know why in just a moment. Um, it is also National Hot Air Balloon Today. Now, I don't know about any of you out there, but I've actually never taken a hot air balloon ride. What about you? Yes, you have, huh? Yeah, how long ago was that?

SPEAKER_03

When I was 18.

SPEAKER_00

How about let's put the microphone.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe like 20. I was around 20, and it was not a good experience.

SPEAKER_04

What happened?

SPEAKER_03

Coming down, we hit a corner of a trailer. Um, the the basket did, and so we fell sideways on the floor.

SPEAKER_00

What okay, wait, wait. Oh, okay, hold on.

SPEAKER_03

A big huge basket, and so when it's coming down, there was a trailer that was parked. Like what kind of trailer? Like a mobile home. Like a camping trailer.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_03

So like it hit the edge and then it made our so we fell on the side. So you tipped, yeah, and then you spilled out of the uh out of the stayed in there, but yeah, but it was it wasn't. I was like, okay, this is not a good thing.

SPEAKER_00

First and last time.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man.

SPEAKER_03

Uh and I've heard some horror stories, so yeah. Yeah, doing that or skydiving.

SPEAKER_00

Not in my yeah, no, no. I'm I don't think I'm ever gonna do the skydiving thing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think once you reach like, I don't know, over 40, you stop like wanting to do those daredevil type of things.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I don't know about that.

SPEAKER_03

I well, I don't I wouldn't say, you know, that they're all like it's like a daredevil thing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, I hear what you're saying. You you your your thrill seeking days are like behind you.

SPEAKER_03

Hot air ballooning is not considered that bad.

SPEAKER_00

Right, right.

SPEAKER_03

But but you know, uh um But we did like zip lining when we went to oh zip lining, I'll do zip lining I'll do anytime at all. And to me, that's more dangerous because you're just you know, you're climbing up, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Well, there's nothing to break your fall if something happens, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_03

I think the more dangerous part is waiting in line for your turn. If you've seen some of those platforms, you have to just, you know, you can't move around a lot.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but you know, they do a pretty good job of keeping you safe. But uh yeah, I don't I you know, although I I don't see myself ever skydiving, you know, I don't understand the reason or the need to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, but I um but I could see myself doing that before I bungee jump.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I would never bungee jump.

SPEAKER_00

It'd be my luck, you know. The the bungee cords would snap just as you know, I'm headed down, or it springs back up once and then it snaps, and then I fall, you know, to my death, whatever it is. I don't know. But no, zip, yeah, bungee jumping forgetting zip lining, uh yeah, all day long.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, just watch TikTok and for people falling in. And you won't do that every day. You won't want to do that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, TikTok, or if you want to go old school, just watch like America's funniest home video.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I know there's AI, so there's they make everything look real.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there's a lot of fake stuff. Um, okay, so maybe you've celebrated National Hot Air Balloon today. Maybe you're gonna do a twilight trip up in the sky. Maybe if you do, and that's your thing, that's your jam, then you know what? Have at it and and enjoy. It's also, and I feel so bad. I shouldn't even say this. I feel so bad. It is National Donut Day.

SPEAKER_03

Now I remember like there's donut day, and what is that, like 10 times a year?

SPEAKER_00

Oh no, it's just that there's so many sweets out there, every one of them has to have a day, and it seems like every day is National Pink Donut Day, National Chocolate Donut Day. Well, I don't know. It's possible. Yeah, it's possible. I remember celebrating National Donut Day, I think it was two years ago, right here on the on the program. We had some crispy creams, but and it's so funny. Speaking of Krispy Kreme, I drove right by Krispy Kreme today, and I thought, man, let me go grab a dozen donuts. Not realizing it was National Donut Day. Man, I blew that one. I messed it up big time. So listen, sorry, but you know, have a donut on me, okay?

Donut Day And Tonight’s Challenges

SPEAKER_00

Now, what do we do with Friday Night Live? Normally, Friday Night Live, we do some fun stuff like the like the Melort Challenge and all that. Okay, time out. No Melort challenge today. Today, any challenges will be bean boozled or these um mega sour zombie balls. Oh, I'm showing you.

SPEAKER_03

But I don't think them they're that sour.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, the stickers covering the name. Yeah, so mega sour zombie balls or bean boozled. And the reason being is is that uh in in a little bit we're going to be trying some fantastic um vodka and some fantastic tequila, okay? So just very shortly, but we've got to get the show rolling first, all right? Now, um, okay.

Trivia Bets With BeanBoozled Beans

SPEAKER_00

Miss BQ. We're gonna run do a little trivia, just some simple trivia, okay? And if you get the answer for me, yeah, yeah, between you and I.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, between us.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, between you and I. If you get the answer wrong, you have to eat a bean.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

If you get it right, then I have to eat the bean, okay? Come on here.

SPEAKER_03

So I'll get them all right.

SPEAKER_00

You hope you'll get them all right. Let me put my glasses on so I can read questions over here. All right. I've got like 300 of them over here. Hey, don't try to cheat. She's I already tried to look. Oh, okay. Oh, here's a good one to start with. All right. What breakfast cereal? Don't you don't try to look it up on your put your put your cellular telephone down, please? Guys, she's such a cheat. She cheats at every single game. All right. Uh, where did it go? There it is. What breakfast cereal has been represented by a cartoon toucan mascot since 1963? Can I finish the question, please?

SPEAKER_03

I thought you were done. Fruit loose.

SPEAKER_00

Man, you got that one right. So I gotta eat a bean. Hey, somebody broke the top off of this thing. Three of them came up, so I'm gonna have to eat all three of them. You have to eat whatever comes up to the surface. Uh, so what did I get here? Uh well, I've got either bar for peach. Um, looks like maybe dead fish or strawberry banana smoothie. And oh great. Pomegranate or old bandage. Great. And it would be just my luck that all three of them are nasty, right?

SPEAKER_03

Well, I don't think people want to hear you chewing on air.

SPEAKER_00

Well, one is good, one is bad. Um, let me put the last one in.

SPEAKER_03

At least turn from the microphone.

SPEAKER_00

No, and turn from the microphone. I can't tell on that third one. But okay. Ooh. It's gotta be that bandage. It kind of tastes like plasticky, rubbery, but uh bad. Okay. All right, next question. Oh. Who painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel?

SPEAKER_01

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.

SPEAKER_00

No, oh, I know what you did. No, you're a you're such a cheater. You are such a cheater. I'm keeping your phone over here. You know what she did? She put it on like like voice record so it hears what I ask, and then it gives her the answer.

SPEAKER_03

Michelangelo?

SPEAKER_00

You're such a cheater. I told you she cheats at everything.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't look. You grabbed my phone. I didn't need to.

SPEAKER_00

Well, okay. Wait, wait, no, just relax, relax. No, wait, wait, wait. No, hey, take care, take it easy now. Take it easy. Okay, oh, what did I get here? No, because you're gonna have to eat some beans. All right. Put my glasses here. All this cheating, you got me discombobulated. Um, ooh. Oh, gosh, liver and onions or cappuccino. Okay. Okay. What's this one? This one is again pager barv. So far so good. Um I'm looking at the graph on the um on the bottle or on the the jar here. I can't tell if that's wet dog or or uh or banana. It might be wet dog or banana. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know why you're eating three of them.

SPEAKER_00

Because that's what came up. You have to eat what comes to the top. Ooh. Okay, ooh. Okay, that one's got some wang on it. Ooh.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Oh. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I don't think it's fair how you're asking the question.

SPEAKER_00

Well, but but yeah, what happened? You got two of them right, and I had to eat beans. So it didn't matter that I asked the questions. Somebody has to know the answers. And so I know the answers.

SPEAKER_03

Being that it's oh, so you know the answers that you're I have the answers right here.

SPEAKER_00

So you're choosing to no, no, the answers are given right here.

SPEAKER_03

I know. Okay. No, you're choosing the question.

SPEAKER_00

No, I'm thinking I'm just I'm just I'm just uh uh randomly picking questions. Okay. Uh what is the name of the central protagonist in JD Salinger's classic book, The Catcher in the Rye? You're eating beans because I didn't read that book. I did. I thought okay, yeah. Wait, okay, so here you gotta eat beans. Oh, by the way, can you just want to take a guess? You might get it right. Nothing wrong with guessing.

SPEAKER_03

Is it one name?

SPEAKER_00

Well, first and last name.

SPEAKER_03

Jack Ryan.

SPEAKER_00

All right. No, it's Holden Caulfield. And you know what?

SPEAKER_03

I remember I think you just said that too.

SPEAKER_00

There you go. You got two red. Oh, one's one's either juicy pear or booger. That's the green one. And then the other two look like they're gonna be old bandage or pomegranate. No, you can't spit it out. No, the pun the punishment is you have to eat it. Man, see there, see there, people.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, no, you no it tastes like cardboard.

SPEAKER_00

Well, then there's then cardboard tastes pretty good. But I don't want it like I need to spit it out. All right, listen. Last last one. Although you no.

SPEAKER_03

Get me something to spit it out at.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, uh-uh. Not at all. Although, you know, see, I I read that book, I think it was my junior year in high school.

SPEAKER_04

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

And get get get get get out of here. Trying to mess everything up. No, you gotta. Boy, I tell you. Um and I maybe that was spicy. Maybe because I was, maybe because I was a teenager. I didn't, and maybe I didn't understand it. Um, I thought it was, I thought there was a lot, there were a lot of funny moments in that book. I really did.

SPEAKER_03

Um, but as I Well, is it a classic novel that I should read?

SPEAKER_00

It's a classic book. Okay, so maybe I it is a it is a classic book. I wouldn't necessarily call it a novel. It's about 200 pages, but oh, that's maybe a little, it might be a little bit longer. It's been forever. I thought I bought a used copy of it about 10 years ago because I wanted to read it again because I hear I would hear people talking about it and and not not I mean talking favor favorably about the story, but maybe not so much about holding caufield. And I thought, wait a minute, that's not how I said something. That's not how I interpreted that story, but like I said, I was like 16 years old too. So anyway. All right, last one. Last one. Oh, we've done three questions.

SPEAKER_03

That's good. No, for one.

SPEAKER_00

No, we got one more.

SPEAKER_03

I want to.

SPEAKER_00

You want you yeah, no, you didn't even now one more question. One more. Okay. Hmm. All right, here's one. Here's a fun one. What is the human body's largest organ?

SPEAKER_03

The skin.

unknown

Oh man.

SPEAKER_00

Beans for me. Oh, only two came up.

SPEAKER_03

It's funny. I was gonna ask you, do something science scientific or who's biology.

SPEAKER_00

You know, I know I should when as soon as I I should have known better. I should have known better than to ask you that one. Catherine was like this far from going to medical school or being a doctor or whatever. I don't know. You can tell the story. Um hang on, what did I get? Oh, oh no. I got oh, burnt rubber or licorice. Oh.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, my degree's in microbiology. So figure. Oh, that's right. There it is, by the way. You could just grab another one.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no. You gotta get this one here. That's all right.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

There we go. Put the table back. Well, now it's whatever it is, plus dust.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um man, that one's I feel like somebody burnt like peeled out in my mouth. It tastes like rubber and smoke.

SPEAKER_03

It may be all taste like cardboard, except the last one had like some kind of spice on it.

SPEAKER_00

No, you're just a little crybaby. You gotta you gotta play the game, woman. All right. And I think this last one is liver and onions or cappuccino. So it's seeing well, it doesn't taste very good. So it must be liver and onions. That's man, that's bad. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

No. No, thank you.

SPEAKER_00

All right. So let's get into the meat of the show. Why don't we? All right, let's have some real almost 30 minutes into it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that's okay.

SPEAKER_00

You know, here's here's the good part about this program there's no time limit. We go as long or as little as we want,

Savage Rabbit Vodka And Lemon Drop

SPEAKER_00

you know. When I'm done talking, that's when the show is over. So uh last week, um friend of mine, LG Myrenget, he is uh he's a rep for this uh company called Savage Rabbit. And it's a liquor company, and they've got a line of liquor, and he uh gave me some some stuff. To sample. So as soon as I told Catherine about it, she says, Oh, you know what we're doing, right? And I said, Yeah, we're tasting it on the podcast. She said, That's right. So that's exactly what we're going to do tonight. We're going to shout out Hellgay. Thank you, Hellgay. You rock. And we're going to give a little shout out to this company, Savage Rabbit. Eric. Hey, you were what happened to the little cuffs? They came with your rabbit.

SPEAKER_03

I left them downstairs.

SPEAKER_00

Oh man. So yeah, go ahead and no, this is my this is my literature here.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you don't want it.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no. So the first one that we're going to try is the is the Savage Rabbit vodka. Okay. Now, some of you are going to say, oh, vodka. Who cares? Vodka. It's all the same. Well, this one here is uh oh, you hold that and I'll hold this, and you can keep showing it to everybody at home. It's it's crafted with precision. It is an ultra premium vodka that begins with a masterful blend of carefully selected winter wheat and rye grains. Um it's chilled to a negative three degrees Celsius, and it under it undergoes a uh a rare purification process. It's flowed through layers of no, not that. We're not onto that one yet. We're onto this one. I was just showing you. I I know, but we're gonna do one at a time. That's okay. Sorry, we'll just do one at a time. We don't want to we don't want to confuse the the uh the audience at home. So it uh it's it's um filtered through layers of charcoal and silver. It is filtered 72 times. So this vodka here has been dubbed the no hangover vodka. It's organic, um, it's a pr it's an ultra premium product, and we are going to well, I don't know, I'm not a vodka guy, but uh, you know, for the for the podcast, I'll do it. I'll try it, I'll drink it. Um, so we're gonna try it here. And I don't know. Um, do you wanna do you wanna try it like three different ways? Do you want to try it straight and then put it in, make a couple of uh martinis?

SPEAKER_03

Well, do you want to go over the other two? No, we're gonna tell you so I'm gonna do this one first.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So I'll do this um like um, I'm gonna do it then and make it a blueberry. A blueberry lemon drop. So I'm gonna put a little bit, what? No. Okay, so it's gonna be blueberry lemon drop with some lemon cello.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Um freshly squeezed lemonade. I mean lemonade. Lemons, right in here.

SPEAKER_00

There's your microphone right there.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, freshly squeezed lemons. Um, martini glass. I didn't put sugar on the rim, but usually you could put some sugar on the rim.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's what that's what we get a little bit. I know when you make them here at home, that's what you normally do.

SPEAKER_03

And so I just wanted to try something different because I always make lemon drops. I said, you know what? I have this new vodka. I tasted it last week. It was really good. So uh yeah, so let's get pouring. Let's let's pour.

SPEAKER_00

Let's get pouring.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so I'm gonna put Oh, you know what?

SPEAKER_00

Hang on here. I'm gonna do something.

SPEAKER_03

I'm going to Okay, so two ounces of vodka.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna play with some stuff here while Catherine is making some drinks. Uh looking at the screen, people there. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Let's do a half ounce of lemon challenge.

SPEAKER_00

Don't pay attention to me, people. Keep your eyes on Catherine. I can't see a thing here, and I'm looking at the monitor. Um, what do we got?

SPEAKER_03

And then two ounces of lemon juice.

SPEAKER_00

I'm looking, I'm looking, I'm looking. I'm trying to look for some half ounce of blueberry syrup. Let's just do this.

SPEAKER_03

And it's a simple syrup.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, some nice music in the background while Catherine makes music.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's good. I like that. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I wasn't even paying attention, but you you talked about all your measurements, right? Okay. All right.

SPEAKER_03

And if anyone's interested, I could always post it. I'm usually like texting everyone.

SPEAKER_00

Your recipe.

SPEAKER_03

Especially for my um lemon drops. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Shake, shake, shake. Yeah? Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Well, you can't hear the music that way.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, but they can probably hear it at home.

SPEAKER_02

And then when while I'm drinking, then you could go over your other.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, definitely. But I want to get I want to take a sip, obviously. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm gonna try it too.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, good. It's usually my paint kitch. When we have party, he'll take like a little sip or something. Yeah. Usually when I pour someone something, they're like, this is too strong, oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

Can you I will. Yeah. Just like just pop off? Okay, there you go. Thank you. Alright.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Cool. Cool, cool.

SPEAKER_03

Pretty blue color. This would be great for 4th of July.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And then you can also get some um little lemon peel and put that in there. Okay. Oh, try.

SPEAKER_00

Awesome blossom. Set it right there and then I'll grab it. Okay. Okay. Very good.

SPEAKER_03

This.

SPEAKER_00

Just like I do with my tequila. Let me sniff it.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

You know, it tastes uh. Let me get another. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

It tastes good.

SPEAKER_00

It tastes very fresh. It has very fresh um feel to it. And I think that has to do with the with the fresh lemon, lemon juice, you know. Um, which I think is very important. And we've talked about this in the past right here on the podcast as well. That fresh juice, if you're putting any juices into your cocktails, uh margaritas or martinis or whatever else, fresh juice is always the best way to go. And uh makes a world of difference. Yeah, it does. It definitely does. It has good flavor. You know what? The only thing, the only thing that uh that I would change about that, you know, I like sweet stuff, so I'd put more blueberry syrup in it. But what do you think? Could you could you like crush blueberries and like maybe pure them?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so they have this uh Trader Joe's, they have dried crushed blueberries uh or um dehydrated. And so a lot of people have been doing that in the martinis.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah, so you could put some dehydrated and substitute that for the uh blueberry syrup or no no you can add that because they're very tart. Oh, gotcha.

SPEAKER_03

So just for the color.

SPEAKER_00

More color.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. All right. Yeah, so that's very, that's that's very good right there. That's really, really good. It's like I said, it's very um, it tastes very fresh. So it and it tastes very clean. So it gives a real refreshing, uh, there's there's a real refreshing flavor to it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and you don't want um martinis to be sweet. Unless there's so many drinks out there that are sweet, and the martinis aren't one of them.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Unless you're mean.

SPEAKER_03

And they're you just dip on them. It's not, it's not meant to like dazzle, it's not one of those summer drinks.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

It's more like for dinner, that kind of thing.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. Okay. Alright, cool.

SPEAKER_03

Um, so we're gonna take the vodka away.

SPEAKER_00

You're not gonna make a regular lemon drop?

SPEAKER_03

Um, no, not right now.

SPEAKER_00

No? Okay. All right.

SPEAKER_03

Unless you wanted this one.

SPEAKER_00

No, it's no no no no no.

SPEAKER_03

I don't want to I don't want to waste it.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay. I gotcha. I gotcha. Alright, so grab the uh grab the next one. Okay. Yeah. So right here. Right here's the savage rabbit. Oh, you know, let me cut this music off. Uh, how do I do that? I don't even know how to turn the music off here.

SPEAKER_01

Just lower it, maybe.

SPEAKER_00

I guess I'll have to. As long as it doesn't lower our volume. No, no, it's just

Blanco Tequila Basics And Tasting

SPEAKER_00

the volume of the music.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, now we're gonna, you're gonna taste this one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. So um this is the Savage Rabbit Blanco tequila. All right. And it is um, it's it's again, just like the uh just like the vodka itself, it's 100% organic. It's a single origin tequila. So it's it's uh made from blue Weber agave. It's grown in the Jalisco Valley. And um it's just it's got a real what are you doing?

SPEAKER_03

No, I'm just reading it.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay. Well, before I get into the the flavor profile on it, it's um it's just a real good looking bottle. It's a beautiful bottle. Let me hold this up for the camera. It's got a really nice red top on it that looks orange in the studio light, but it's it's got a uh uh bunny right there. You can see it kind of corners the uh the uh the bottle right there, and it is it's it's a beautiful bottle, it's a beautiful, um, very classy look to it. So I am going to try it right here. Um are you trying tequila?

SPEAKER_03

I'll try a taste of yours, yeah. Since you tried the vodka.

SPEAKER_00

Oh since I tried the vodka, you'll try the tequila. You don't have to. So there's a little taste right there. Now, if you guys remember, if if you don't know, um, if you're not a not tequila drinker, it smells really good from here. Yeah, you can smell it from there, really. If you're not a tequila drinker and you don't know um Blanco tequila, or if you didn't watch the tequila tasting last year, Blanco tequila is just like you see it there. You can't see it, it's clear. All right, it goes from distilling right into the bottle, no age, no age at all. So, what you generally get um is you get more agave flavor than anything else. Okay? So I'm taking a nice a nice whiff of it. Really want to like just get it into my nose there.

SPEAKER_03

And we did a whole tasting on this um with tequila, and it's really informative how you do it smell and you look at the the color and clarity and all that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, most definitely. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

So just like the vodka, it's a very clean, clean flavor.

SPEAKER_00

There's some heat on it, not not overpowering heat. There's it's it's warm. It's warm. It's warm in the mouth, it's spicy on the back end, and then you get a little warm feeling right there, which is good. If it's if it's too hot, you that's that's no good. You don't like that. That's not what you want. You want something that's warm and for a blanco, or depending on the brand, it could be plata or silver or whatever. Okay. Um you want some spiciness on the back of your palate, which I feel both sides of my tongue right on the back.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. But it's very, it's very clean. Very clean.

SPEAKER_03

And I don't drink tequila straight ever. No, you don't have to mix like margaritas. Um but I can't think of what I would make with a blanco tequila.

SPEAKER_00

As I put as I put that swallow in my mouth, then you hit me with hit with that. Well, blanco tequilas are used for if you're not drinking them straight, uh, they are used for uh margaritas. Now I've never had one.

SPEAKER_03

That's what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_00

Well, you probably have and you may not have known it, but certainly when you make your margaritas, you the your favorite tequila to use is 1921 reposado.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, not 1942, 1921.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you for that. Thank you for that. No, because you know, to and I'm glad Catherine said that because it points something out. We've we've been to all kinds of places, whether it and and and stores and that kind of stuff, and we'll ask, hey, have you got 1921? And they'll say, You mean 1942? And I say, No, I mean 1921. And they just like have no idea what I'm talking about. But that 1921, it makes a beautiful margarita.

SPEAKER_03

And they have the whole Blanco, they have all of that. Yeah, but you have to, you know, go to LA to find it most of the time.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, I think um we generally have to go to Ramiro's liquor, right? Yeah, yeah, that's a big uh importer, and so they've got a they've got a nice you walk in there and it's like wow. Yeah, they have a nice line of tequilas that you can't buy in the United States or I shouldn't say buy. They're not available so much in the United States unless you're an importer and they're importers, and they have some discontinued items.

SPEAKER_03

So if you're looking for something really rare, sometimes they have it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, that's true. That is true also. Um, but again, uh very clean flavor on that, nice spice. And I I felt I tasted the agave on the front end and on the back end, I got the spice and a nice warmth in my chest. Nothing overpowering. Very good. It's yeah, it's uh re oh, why am I putting the glass over there? I don't know either. Really one more. Yeah, really, really, really good. So um let's let's grab that uh yeah, let's grab that other bottle there.

SPEAKER_03

So this one is look at how beautiful the bottles are.

SPEAKER_00

It actually is a beautiful bottle.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, the bottle, sorry.

SPEAKER_00

No, go ahead. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_03

It just reminds me the bottles here, just like if you're in Vegas and you go to some high roller slot area or wherever. And I imagine this like on their shelf.

SPEAKER_00

Like a like a um a high-end high-end bar or something like that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, something where only the you know, where it's exclusive.

SPEAKER_00

Now, the one thing that I don't know about this product, I have no idea what the price points are. That I don't. I I don't have that information, but um yeah, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, and look at the bottom the lid.

Extra Añejo Notes And Hosting Tastings

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the yeah, and the cap. Yeah, on the cap, it's got the rabbit inside the cap also. But this one here is the extra on Yo black bottle. You see that gold bunny rabbit right there. It's just it really is, it's just a beautiful bottle. They've done a nice, just such a nice job with um you know the presentation on this stuff. And the only bummer about this is that it I didn't get a reposado or an añejo. That's the only bummer. But aside from that, no.

SPEAKER_03

That was a reposado.

SPEAKER_00

No, this one's the extra oneho.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we're going blanco to extra añeho. So uh as you guys know, if you were part of the tequila tasting or you know your tequila pretty well, an extra anyho means extra age. This one here is again 100% blue agave, uh blue Weber agave. Um, it's um it's aged for three years. So um three years and more, you know, to me, give me more age. I it's uh I love all that stuff. But um there's like there's extra oneho, there's even extra, extra oneos, uh, depending on uh uh what particular tequila that you are you are drinking. But um this one here has um notes of dark cacao, dried fruit, and oak, which almost every tequila that has age, you'll get some oakiness in it because of course it's aged in oak barrels. So that's that's nothing any different. Um but it should have a very um complex, smooth flavor to it, or even fit. Wait, wait, did you hear wait? Did you hear that? Let me try that again. Did you hear that? Oh yeah.

unknown

The cork.

SPEAKER_03

I'm really amazed when we have the tastings at the house, and people actually smell all this, and they write the notes down and they're smelling the caramel and they're because you don't think of tequila. I always just thought, oh, okay, you just pour it in um a margarita, but no, it's very um sought-after thing to do. Taste tequilas, even taste whiskeys and bourbons.

SPEAKER_00

Well, and that's the fun thing that we have done the last, oh my gosh, what have we been doing? Tastings for what five years?

SPEAKER_03

Oh, five years?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, uh, yeah, about five years. We've been doing tastings, you know. We've been doing, you know, not just on the podcast here, uh, but we'll do tastings uh out outside on the patio, and we'll have uh, you know, we'll just invite a bunch of friends over.

SPEAKER_03

And I think the martini tasting that was the fun one. Wow, the martini tasting that we made five martinis and five um what was that tasters to go along with it. Yeah, each of them had a um mouse bouche or what is it called that?

SPEAKER_00

But it's like a little a pairing, it had pairing, it had a pairing with it, and and it was it was for our niece's birthday, and so we did a big martini tasting party, and there were like 30 people sitting around. We had the table set up, and man, it was it was huge. And I wasn't drinking, and then two of my nieces weren't drinking either. No, we're serving, so so we're putting together 30, and we obviously we did many, many martinis where this is like uh this is like a uh an eight and eight ounce martini glass. We have uh martini tasting glasses, I think they're two ounces.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think we have like 60 of them.

SPEAKER_00

Uh we have a whole bunch, it might be more. I think it might be 160. So we um we're just pouring all these uh these uh martinis, and we had lemon drop, we had uh uh pineapple coconut, we had an espresso martini, we had uh what else did we have? Because we had five of them. Um I'm trying to think of the other two.

SPEAKER_03

It was that one um with the tamarind.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that's right. It had uh it had tamarind on the rim, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so I had to buy the little the little tamarind straws and I cut them in half. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So good.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and then something else. I can't remember. Oh, it was a mango, mango martini, yeah. And then something else, I can't remember. And so we're we're not only pouring all these miniature martinis, but now we're getting all the pairings put together and running out here with trays.

SPEAKER_03

It was fun because they brought it out one at a time, yeah. And it was a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_00

Well, the fun part about doing a tasting, and I know this tequila is just sitting here, so it's all right.

SPEAKER_03

But the the weird thing was when we went to Alaska, we just happened upon this little um cocktail lounge in on the ship, and they were doing tastings, yeah, just like we did.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

They had what six martinis, and you just walked up and you just got the platter. There wasn't, it wasn't a pairing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That's right.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that was a lot of fun.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there was that one. And then there was also the um the uh um scotch tasting too. Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Bart did Bart and Darren did that one, right?

SPEAKER_00

Right, right, right. There was the scotch tasting.

SPEAKER_03

They had the good chocolates at the bottom. That the presentation was phenomenal on that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, definitely. Tastings are a lot of fun because you just you you you're you're amongst a whole group group of people, and it doesn't matter who you're sitting next to, you may not even know that person. Yeah, but then you just start talking, you start talking about what it is that you're tasting, what it is that you're smelling, what it is that you're feeling, and you just kind of get wrapped up in conversation. It's all good stuff. It really, really is. So um if you're into any of that stuff, I recommend how. Having a tasting uh at your home if you have the room for it. And it doesn't have to be a whole bunch of people. I mean, I know when we did bourbon last year, we had like 24, 26 people, something like that. But usually we try to keep the tastings to about a dozen.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, well, we want to do a wine tasting, but I only want to do it with maybe six people because I want to do it more pairings and yeah.

SPEAKER_00

All right. So let's get into this one right here. Savage rabbit. Boy, that's a long rota ho, isn't it? Savage rabbit, the um extra on yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

And do you smell the caramel? Do you smell the notes in there?

SPEAKER_00

I I don't, I don't I think you said coral and no uh cacao and dried fruit.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I don't smell any of that right now. A little oakiness, yes. It might take more to really get it, but let's take a sip here. As much as I love chocolate, I wish I tasted the cacao, but I don't. But it has there's not much in there, but there's a tiny little zip. But there's the bottle too. It um it has a smokiness to it. That's that's your barrel. That's your the char from the barrel. Uh it has a little spice to it, almost like a peppercorn type spice. And um the I tell you what, the the the the the not the burn, but the the spiciness is so good. The spiciness is on the front end, and then the finish. Yes, the finish, it just it just it settles in, it settles down, and uh oh, this is a good one, yeah. Yeah, and it's just really, really good going down. It's really good going down.

SPEAKER_03

There's something like sweet in there, or is it the caramel or no?

SPEAKER_00

It no caramel? No, I didn't, I didn't I didn't taste any caramel, but that doesn't mean that you can't get a caramel flavor out of it because of the caramelization of the oak barrels. So you can, and everybody's palate's a little bit different too.

SPEAKER_03

Um no, this is a good sipping tequila. Yeah, this is really cool, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Most definitely. Yeah, most most definitely. No, it's it's it's dynamite stuff. And to to Helgay out there, um this is fantastic product. A fantastic line of spirits, you know, from the vodka to the tequilas. Now, like I said, I haven't tried the reposado or the año. Oh, you want this one here?

SPEAKER_03

Okay, just so I could next to each other, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, okay. Whoops, watch that glass there. Yeah. So uh unfortunately, I haven't tried the uh reposado or the añeho yet, but I look forward to doing that. And uh yeah, good on Savage Rabbit. They've got a wonderful line, a great line of of stuff here. And uh look it up. Look it up, people, and find out where you can get it. If it's available at, you know, uh I think total wine, he said.

SPEAKER_03

Total wine.

SPEAKER_00

Is it okay? All right. So if you have a total wine, um, total wine in your area, great. Uh check it out. That's one of, you know, that's one of our favorite places to go because they just have a wonderful line of product.

SPEAKER_03

Um it's a yeah, they're very knowledgeable. It's a vast line.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, they they actually take pride in what it is that they do over there.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They're they're sampling stuff all the time. So they uh they're very knowledgeable because they take pride in what it is that they do. And so it's almost like they're proud to talk about whatever it is you you want to ask them about. So it's good stuff.

SPEAKER_03

But uh and we're going there next week, next Thursday. Well, you are, and that's right, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, unfortunately, I won't be joining the crowd for that one. There's a wine tasting next Thursday, right? And I have to work nights next week, starting Sunday night, and they're going on Thursday night. It's my last night, too. So uh so I'm gonna miss that one because we did it a few months back and it was a lot of fun. We had a lot, we had a lot of fun doing that.

SPEAKER_03

Um, so yeah, just really, really um and the thing too, like um when we have tastings, people don't get wasted and drunk because we actually do a taste. We're not pouring heavy and drinking, it's all about tasting.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. And that's not the point of doing a tasting.

SPEAKER_03

No, it's uh more for I think it's the people who don't taste that get drunk because they're the ones because they overdo it a little bit, yeah. They're the ones eating and drinking and waiting for the because the whole process takes like a couple hours.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

We don't we don't rush it at all. We we have like five, usually five, six pours, and then we have an intermission.

SPEAKER_00

We have to take an intermission.

SPEAKER_03

We call it an intermission drink, yeah, yeah. Halftime, not not a halftime drink, yeah. We call it halftime, but not where we're like actually, you know, we don't leave the table, right?

SPEAKER_00

Exactly.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, and most of the times I do the pouring, so I don't drink at all during those.

SPEAKER_00

There's a break in the action there, so um, yeah. So, like, what else is going on with you, BQ?

Hot Yoga And A Prank Gone Wrong

SPEAKER_03

Well, I've gotten into hot yoga, so that is phenomenal. I love it. Um, go about every day, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but and I now that you brought it up, there's different types of yoga, not just okay, hot yoga and whatever you want to call regular yoga, but but don't you do different classes as well?

SPEAKER_03

Like uh Yeah, so every day it's something different. Like today I did yoga sculpt, so it was a little bit hot in the room, and we're doing weights. You have dumbbells, yeah, dumbbells. We do a light set, a heavy set, and it's with with the dumbbells, so lifting them, and it's nothing like when you're in a weight room, like you're lifting heavy and you're like grinding. No, this is very controlled moves, and you're overhead and you're doing and you're like moving, doing uh, you know, eagle pose and chaturanga, and there's so many, yeah, it's wonderful.

SPEAKER_00

It's like um, you know, and the way training something new, right? And the the way, the way you would you get your muscle tone and you build your muscle and you burn your fat doing um sculpting yoga, it's all through time under tension, right? Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. There's one class that I'm doing tomorrow, it's called CSX. And so that's no heat, and it's more weights. So it's a little bit more, you're sweating, but it's more of you're sweating because you're moving, uh, it's more aerobic, I would say, than any of the other. You're moving a little bit faster through poses.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

And there's a little bit more um cardio involved in that one.

SPEAKER_00

Interesting.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And that one's only, I think, 45 minutes. So it's shorter and it's more of a burst.

SPEAKER_00

So we're getting yoga, we're getting yoga tips and stuff from Catherine here. I had no idea.

SPEAKER_03

But the best one, the one I love is candlelight yoga. Yeah. You it's early in the morning. Well, it's always early no matter what class I take.

SPEAKER_00

And it's probably a man instructor, being that it's candlelight, and he's probably trying to romance all the women in the room, right?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, should we say the joke we told you that you believed?

SPEAKER_00

Oh. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_04

Go ahead.

SPEAKER_03

Tessa, we were we were we were um joking with Ben. We were saying, oh yeah, we're we got we got in. Oh my god, we got into the class. What? Are you serious? We got in. Oh my gosh. Okay, we're so excited. So we told Ben, like, you know, he's like, what are you guys talking about?

SPEAKER_02

I said, Oh, we got into the um naked Pilates class or naked yoga, naked hot yoga class. Yeah. And he was like, What?

SPEAKER_03

We said, Yeah, but it's okay because it's only it's on a Sunday, it's it's only like six people could get into it, and it's a man teaching it. And he believed us. Yeah, he was so mad. He goes, You better not do that, you better not go. Yeah, yeah. It was hilarious.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she's she's so funny, she thinks she's so funny.

SPEAKER_03

No, but the candlelight yoga is very relaxing, and yoga just grounds you. I mean, if you've never tried it, just try a class and you'll be hooked. You will be hooked.

SPEAKER_00

All right, yeah. Right on. What else is going on? What else is going on? No, nothing up. All right, sounds good. We we don't get to honestly, this is like the most we get to catch up with one another, right? Yeah, yeah, no, I

Phones, Records, Marriage, And Goodbyes

SPEAKER_00

I uh I was I was off today.

SPEAKER_03

We're like, what did you have for lunch? Uh what did you eat?

SPEAKER_00

I I was off today, and Catherine went to yoga this morning. So she left at like, I don't know, five o'clock this morning, and uh her her and her uh girlfriend Christina, they went to this early class, and I got up about I don't know, 6 30, something like that. I don't know, I whatever it was. And uh then I got my workout in. And by the time I got that done and and and showered, Catherine had come back home and um then she's getting ready to start work. But she says, Oh, I broke my cell phone. What are you talking about? Yeah, I was pulling it out of the out of the cubby hole and it fell on the floor. I broke it. So it's basically as soon as she comes home, um right before she she starts work. Well, I think she I think she did. I had a phone. I think she had to log in because you had a phone. Yeah, I think you had a phone call or something like that. And then she takes off to go and get herself a new phone. And I said, Well, I have to go and take off because I have stuff to do. And um I I don't want to jinx it, so I'm not gonna mention it because it has something to do with the podcast. Okay, so I'm not gonna say anything. Um, but um while I was out and about, guess what I did too? Just like last week, I went record store shopping, another haul record store. Yeah, that's right. And I have more stuff that I will be sharing with you guys uh on a later show, all right, a later episode of this podcast.

SPEAKER_03

You'll eventually buy a turntable.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, eventually I'll get a turn.

SPEAKER_03

He just wants to look at these albums. What I don't understand, but wait a minute.

SPEAKER_00

No, no. Well, I know you don't understand because you hate music.

SPEAKER_03

I didn't look my shoes and clothes that I buy, so it was so hard because I went to the Apple store today. And guess what is in that mall? Nordstrom's. And I didn't stop.

SPEAKER_00

Your favorite store, the one that you were a part of for 22 years.

SPEAKER_03

I did not stop and look. Well, actually I did see a bathing suit I like, but I just I did not I didn't buy it. I kept walking. I said, No, I'm gonna be good. I'm gonna be good. I just bought an Apple phone.

SPEAKER_00

Uh oh yeah, yeah. You just bought a new phone and uh And then during the whole process, I was there two hours.

SPEAKER_03

Two hours the phone started working again. And I already I'm like, what can I do now? Is it gonna stay working? Who knew? So I just now I have an i7 or I mean an Apple iPhone 17.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah. All right. I that's that stuff like doesn't mean anything to me, you know. It doesn't mean much. All I know is I can't I can't do any more updates on my phone because I don't have enough, uh I don't have enough memory. I have no gigs left on my phone. I have so much music on there, I think it takes up most everything. So uh, but no, but this one here, she can get herself a new phone, but me, no, I can't. I just gotta keep my face, my, my, my face recognition doesn't even work anymore on this thing. So I always have to put in my my passcode. Used to work, and then it just stopped working, but I don't know. Yeah, she got she gets on me for what for for for buying an album like on eBay or something for 20 bucks or whatever it is, and yet then you know it'll it'll show up at the door. What's that? We got another album, what's that for? And then the next day, like this box of shoes shows up, or box of uh of fitness gear or whatever. Well, oh today, no, today it was a yoga mat, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Jeez, yeah, he's holding albums. I'm gonna look behind you, I got a yoga mat.

SPEAKER_00

Man, she always gives me the business. I never say anything when she buys something. Never. But boy, I spent 20 bucks on a on a on a used record.

SPEAKER_03

Man, you just bought four new tires that cost like $1,500.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I had to have tires. I can't drive a vehicle.

SPEAKER_03

I can't work without my phone.

SPEAKER_00

I can't drive without tires. Oh, the wonders and the and and and the beauty of marriage, right? Yes. It is, it's the best. Anyways, all right. We've we've messed around enough. All right, we'll let you guys go and get out of here and carry on with the rest of your evening. Um hope that uh you got some good some good information here on the Savage Rabbit line, the vodka, the tequila, and uh go out and support them. You know, it's uh it's a pretty new uh new line. And uh yeah, go out and go out and show your support if it's if it's uh something that's up your alley and uh have fun doing it. All right. So look, uh, as you guys know, this program is available wherever you get your podcasts, and it's on YouTube, just like tonight, Friday Night Live. That's right.
